G'day guys, I am new at this so please excuse my lack of knowledge on the subject. I am replacing the rigging on Birinda and was seriously considering adding a headsail furler/reefer to the equation. Never having used one before, I thought I'd ask the question of whether I'd be able to use my current headsails with a furler or not. I have the standard 120% genoa, #1, #2 jibs and a #3 (storm sail?) and a try sail. These are simply hanked onto the forestay. Any advice? |

G,day Sea Wulf Head sail furlers Hummmmm. I have made four and they have all worked fine , if you are a bit handy which it seems you are they are not that hard to make out of alloy . If you want to go down that track let me know and i'll go through the process with you and some spec's . Check out Roller Reef design its Aust made and Tuff . Regarding the head sail take off the hanks of your no2 check out the size of your bolt rope , it may have to be replaced with one of a larger diameter and providing the luff is not to long slip it up the foil on your furler. The sail shape will not be perfect, a custom made sail will be better, but this will give you all the convience of a roller system, and i have'nt met anyone who has taken off their roller to go back to the old system .No 2 headsail seem to work well on Endeavours , if you owned a boat with a bigger main a No 3 is a good combination. Cheers taunto . |

Hey Taunto,
Excellent mate. I'm glad someone has done one of these on an Endeavour before. Do you have a website I could check out for the mob you mentioned? I'll probably get a new headsail made to fit eventually as I'd like to do some serious coastal cruising. Sure will make life easier when you are sailing short handed! On that note, I love my Autohelm ST1000+ too... won't leave port without it!
Cheers!
