Hello all, Am from Bowen NQ and the owner of Rhumbline, an Endeavour 26 I think there have been some weird things done on this boat but am slowly getting all in order 1st Q- what is the standard length of boom? 2nd Q- what is the standard main luff length for masthead rig (my main is missing from below the first reefing point!!! New bolt rope but no reinforcing on either eye) Have done basically all I want to inside boat except removing/replacing pipe frames. Now have ZERO holes in hull under waterline, solid internal fitout. And all painted with that lovely water based poly paint. Toe rails had many areas rotted out by the intelligent use of stainless on alloy, to the extent that I thought maybe unsavable. But sandblasting, West epoxy filling and fairing of holes, primer and Killrust aluminium paint gave a good appearance, at least from more than 10 feet away. Hopefully back in the water this month- I'd rather work on the water than on land. Then new main- anyone with ideas on who has made these?
Have been following your forum for a while and glad to finally be a member- thanks for the knowledge base,
Alan G Crane

Boom 3.2m + 25.4mm. Main luff 8.229m. (Leech 8.839m). Any sailmaker worth their salt should be able to fit out a sailplan for you. Enjoy. Rob. |

Robert, Thanks for that- rechecked and the main is all there on those measurements. Probably a silly question but why is the luff so short considering it leaves more than 1 metre of mast unoccupied? |

| I think Reg Gardner's boats were named Rhumbline, in which case you have a bit of Endeavour history to cherish. |

So Geoff, you're saying having hoisted the main to near the masthead, you have a metre gap to the gooseneck/boom? Or vice versa? How far from the cabin top is it to the gooseneck? The mast from cabin top to head should be 9.5m+101.6mm. Check by hoisting some line to the masthead via the main halyard, mark it at the cabin top, then lower and measure it. If it's a longer mast, DON'T TELL ANYONE!! Have a main made to fit, go to Gosford next year and blitz the fleet. Rob. |

Especially don't tell Mr Cope as he will no doubt complain bitterly - as is his want - dontweknow! and yes Robert is correct all Reg's boats (3 x 26s)were called Rhumbline so I feel you do indeed own a bit of grand history. I would have sailed on it as akid but lets not let that take any gloss off :) Conz |

Robert, mast is off boat so I guess that at the moment it's only about 6" tall but is 30.25 feet wide!! joking!! No, what I've got is 1.080m of mast section below the track cutout. If I locate the boom at this point, the headboard is 16cm short of it's highest possible point. By the way, the boom attaches via a car to a piece of tracking 60cm long so it's possible to drop the boom 60cm down from cutout, PLUS there's the ability to extend the foot by aprox 15cm further out on boom. All this said, am hoping to trial run standing the mast this week, then I can stretch the sail out properly. But considering thwres no E26 class racing up here, how do they cope with a larger main. Our sailing will be limited to wags/sags, club stuf and cruising. ESPECIALLY cruising!! |
