The 4 BBYC E26 competitors charged up to Gosford on Friday 6th Jan on the face of 20 to 30 knots of southerly . We delayed leaving the club until around 0830 then gradually all where on the water by 0900 with single reefed mains and small jibs. Blys got away first with Tic Tacs not far behind and as we all had a good session getting out through Botany Bay entrance with run out tide and big onshore breeze had some good 3 ft breakers over the bow of Kokomo as we got around Cape Henry and charged north. We all had Marine rescue informed , we stayed in contact with Stella and rolled north the other two had surfed away from us recording some pretty good speeds with Blys at 12.5 kts pretty bloody good for a 35 year 26 ft production ****ter. We had between 2 to 4m seas with lots of breakers and solid 25 plus untill around Long Reef which was around 1300 hrs and still with only single reefed main we hoisted Etchell jib poled out and surfed away from Stella dropped pole reached back out from Bungan Head popped 3/4 oz Etchell kite and surfed across towards Maitland Bay at 10 knots having some great rides on the easing breeze ,with only Glyn and i onboard we dropped kite jybed and reached down to Box Head and waited for our travelling partner to go through into the bumpy channel. It is always a pleasure to travel up the channel to Brisbane Waters ,so much to see and another gem of the universe. We arrived at GSC around 1600 with Peter Walsh getting us tucked away ,Many thanks. Having been a ocean sailing boofhead for many years this trip gave a realisation of how well these dinosuar 1/4 tonners go in so many different conditions . Saying that thank @##*! we did not have to travel south to Botany Bay on that same day the reality would have worn away fast . Cheers Good Racing at Gosford Grunta.
