Hi Folks, just bought a "fixer upper" E23 up here in Darwin...... you got to have something to spend your spare time on......

Basically a sound boat with neglect issues, nothing expensive $ wise, just time wise. Most of the "improvements" made over the years will be removed and the boat will be used as a family overnighter around the Darwin Harbour/Bynoe Harbour/Tiwi Islands areas.....

I would like to exchange a few ideas and learn from other E23 owners about mainly Practical experiences using this model.

G,day Graham , welcome to our little group of endeavourites . Its interesting that you have bought an E23 in Darwin , whats the history ,did it sail there or was it trailed . In the Blue Book i see that there were two 23 footers , a Viking and a swing keel called the SD 23 Endeavour , both made in small numbers , both tuff little boats . I look forward to hearing from you and what you are going to do to your boat and where your going to sail her and all the the adventures you have .
Cheers taunto

Taunto, the vessel is the shoal keel type with the rear cabin and the 20HP Buhk fitted. it was sailed up here in 99/00 and the last owner bought it circa 2004. He used it regularly until 2009 when he had a gearbox issue, and he removed the gearbox and left the boat in the sailing club compound. Three months later, he went to refit the gearbox (now reconditioned) and found that someone had stolen the propeller...... he lost interest in the boat at that stage, and combined with a few health issues, decided to not attempt to get it back sailing, three years later.....

I happened along at this time, asking if anyone had a "Project" for me to work on.

I moved the boat from Darwin to Wagait Beach where I live (140 km by road, 8 km by sea)last weekend by tilt tray and will be getting it back to good sailing order by next dry season (easter 2013)

it is generally in good order, a sound boat with 3 years in a tropical boat park of mould, flaking paint and decaying upholstery to rectify.

here are a couple of pics of it in the "as received state"....... I will post some progress pics as they happen.

I would like to discuss the characteristics of the boat with an experienced owner if possible......if I need to rectify a chronic issue I would rather plan for and do it now than later.

Graham
