Good one Kev. Ian & I went for a lazy sail to Shark Island & back to North Harbour this afternoon. Nice afternoon, we put up the new kite pole & it looked good, however we were only two up & the breeze was a little fresh so we just sailed home under mail & poled out jib. We also pull out the removeable log after a sail. Chris. |

Guys, Just a bit of a wraning about being careful when removing the log after a sail. One time I inadvertently didn't quite get a seal on the screw down bung you put in after removing the log. A check of the boat a week later revealed the very slow drip had culminated in a reasonable bit of water in the bilge (luckily the water had not made it high enough to go anywhere near the motor or anything else except the bilge sides!). Now I only take the log out if I am going to be on the boat for around 30 minutes after removing it. I dry the area with paper towel after removing the log, then check for any signs of moisture by using dry paper towel around 30 minutes later. If I had been on a mooring so it was more inconvenient to check the boat so frequently, that slow drip could have been very nasty! Nothing like someone elses bad experience to act as a warning! |

Hi Leigh, We have had no problems with our log to data, although when you remove or replace it there is a gush of water. We always manually pump out the bilge before we leave her. Yesterday morning when I went on board there was about two bucket fulls of salt water in the bilge. This was because the previous Sunday when we left her I had not filled the stern gland with grease. We have a grease nipple on the brass fitting that we normally re-grease with a grease gun which is left on board. If the gland is not re-greased there is a slow drip. If it is re-greased then the leakage is minimal or nil as we frequently find the bilge dry. We always leave the rear floor board out to remind us to open the engine cock as well as to drain the bilge. Will you make it to the Regatta next weekend? There is room on board the Hagar to sail & sleep. Chris. |

Hi all, I've had the same experience as Leigh with a leaking bung in the Log. Thank god I went out to check the boat during the week a couple of months ago, the water was just below the floor boards. There is a small slot on the Skin fitting and when you put the bung back in the one must aleign the corresponding lump on the bung. There is nothing on the wheel fitting so if you were not look it could be overlooked. Also, when the fitting is new the rubber O ring will hold the water back even if the slots are not aleigned. Also, I should have accommodation on Splinter for anybody out of town wants to stay over. I should have a good crew for Saturday but Sunday could be a worry. Thinking about it we should have got a register going. cheers, |

A register is a good idea Kevin. We will have an experienced crew of four only at this stage for both days. We will be sailing up on Friday sometime after lunch. Anyone who is keen to sail on an E30 should contact either Kevin or myself and be prepared to work! I may be the only person sleeping on the Hagar so there will be heaps of spare bunks. Chris. |

It was interesting to note that when we were sailing upwind yesterday in the southerly the Manly Yacht Club fleet was behind us on the same tack. There were only two or three yachts that seemed to make any real impression on us & they were 40 footers. The leading boat is a Beneteau 40.7 match. She was moving. She should for a cool $405,000. They depreciate by more than twice the value of the Hagar is worth in one year! We had a casual steerer, two on board with the No2 header which was under powered at times & full main. As Ian said, can't wait to see how she will go with new sails. There is a lot of tuning to be done including the cleating system in need of some further TLC, a new set-up for the cunningham to be controlled from the cockpit as well as all the mast blocks being re-aligned. Lots of jobs, so little time. Chris. |

| Guys, I would have loved to come up for the anniversary regatta and thanks for the kind offers on board. Unfortunately I did my dash by doing Hammo week recently on a Tassie Beneteau First 42S7 that had been taken up there (lots of $$$ just for accomodation/airfares/grog up there!!). Best wishes for the event and hope the "grog to hangover severity ratio" doesn't do too many people in!!. Look forward to seeing some photos. |

Well, if nothing else, I will try and take lots of pics and bring them down when we are in Tassie in November.

Hi all,
I'll be in the area over the weekend as my son is sailing out of Georges River. I can see no reason why I can't drop him off, pat him on the head, show him where the water is and try and score a ride with you guys.
Unfortunately logistic prevented me getting my E26 to the regatta. I would love to get a ride with somebody. My preference is:- 1.A boat that needs an extra hand. 2.E28/30 as I thinking of going that direction in the future 3.E26 4.Anything as I'd be happy just to be on the water.
I'll be down Friday and will drop in but probably won't be able to sail. All things going well I'll be available for Sat and Sun.
Cheers Michael 0428674249 |

Would you belive that we are still looking to buy some fittings for the old Hagar? Last weekend I noticed after we got back in that the starbord car for the jig track has shat itself. So tomorrow afternoon will be off to our friendly second hand chandlery to look for a "new" one. Will also see if there are any cheap wet weather overalls, which I lack. The last time I went there we saved about $120.00 on the pair of parrot beak fittings for the new pole. Is there any advise on overall wet weather brands? Chris. |

Kevin, did you know that a new study has found that "city owners of large four-wheel-drive vehicles are less community minded than other drivers, less charitable, more likely to be homophobic and have a low opinion of indigenous culture". They are more likely to be obese & aggressive ect". They only forgot the part about the big boats we sail! Chris. |

Chris, I'm going to answer that BUT have just gotten back from Zippos, full of grog, and seafood. She who is to be obayed 50'th, now been going since Saturday. Boy of Boy I just want to go to bed and let her just get over it. Yes I heard that report and I cannot believe that the Government actually paid those idiots to waste time and do studies and then produce a reports like that. I like my 4 wheel drive. I think it has the same importance as a grant that was made for a mod to develop a surfboard for females. What it's easy, drill two large holes in the surfboard and it would be more comfortable for the girls to paddle.
cheers,

Good to hear that you are in heavy training for the big weekend Kev. I was wondering have you heard of any other "big boats", other than the eight which are on Cols list dated, 4/9/2005. They include:
(1) RhumlineIV, Warren Eggins, an E27. (2) Yellow Bird, Simon Bathgate, an E27. (3) Ando Aldwell, an E27.
(4) Bon Doobie, Dave Baily, an E28. (5) Second Fling, an E28.
(6) Splinter, an E30. (7) Hagar IV, an E30. (8) Swan Song, an E30. Wanted to past somthing to big boats to stir them up a little. Chris. |

| Copey, I would have loved to add Caroline to the E30 list but time precludes it - maybe you guys could discuss and organise an E30 cruise to Hobart when you get together on the weekend! Caroline and Zero Balance lie in Hobart to await the result of the discussions (surely in the affirmative after a few ales)! Now thats a challenge!!! |

I must admit I would love to have more '30's there. 3 is a bit of a disappointment as I thought we were going to have 5. However, at this stage I have never had another '30 beside me and I will be thrilled to have another 2 '30 there. I know where the party will be after the Club shuts down. Sasha, bring your ear plugs with you as the party will be on the '30's. If we are on a mooring, I will bring a Zodak & motor for a tender. I just don't want to be left on the boat waiting for the tender to arrive. To all other '30's owners, cruise, do what you like (just start the motor) but please just get down there. The more the better and we will all enjoy it. cheers,

Sounds excellent Leigh. Rod & Andy have done a few Sydney to Hobarts & I have been down there a few times by air only. Would love to go & cruise around the shore line. It is a really beautiful part of the world. A few night on the turps will get us talking about it. Chris. |

Leigh, YAH, what a challenge will talk about it on the weekend but the "BUT" might come into it. Planes are easier and more comfortable. I think what would work is we come down and you guys show us around. I have never been to Tassie. cheers, |
