This long weekend Rod & myself were conspiring to take a little run up the coast for an overnight stay, or two, to Pittwater. Alas, Rods' SWMBO'd has sunk our plans and we will both be in church to attends Rods heir being confirmed as a tike. So Rod & I will be doing pennece for our many sins, as well as viewing Sashas' boob video clip. However Saturday afternoon is a working bee and Monday we are hoping to go whale watching off Sydney. Chris. |

This weekend saw another wild one with heavy rains, and with high winds and seas. Both Rod & I were pre-occupied on Saturday with Rod at an army shoot & with myself at the Gold Coast attending an business industry conference. This afternoon we went down to the Hagar and found her reasonably dry with some fresh water in the bilge. We pumped her out and took her for a motor across the harbour into little Manly and back. We identified some of our deck leaks for future caulking. Chris. |

Early this morning Rod with his dog & myself went down to North Harbour and rowed out to the Hagar. She now has her namesake the Hagar Too, the E26, moored alongside her. It was a beautiful morning, a clear blue sky with a light westerly blowing and the harbour flat with a very slight ground swell. The Hagar VI was reasonably dry with just three sump-fulls of rain water leakage to pump out. There was some condensation inside but considering all the rough weather and heavy rains she was in good condition. I got to and oiled all of the teak work with the new companionway rubbing strip in the threshold of the companionway looking good. We ran the engine and she started well with the same electrical fault still annoying. Having finished up we went back to the Club and checked it out. We have no power at present and the Telecom say that they cannot re-connect until the board is fixed, having been fried. Chris.

Having arrived home early from work I went down to Whitworths at Brookvale and spoke with the sales staff regarding our leaking Metho stove. They advised not to go to the manufacturer who is "Maxis" because they are very slow and expensive on servicing. They said to take the stove to an engineer to fix it. So I purchased a new burner in anticipation that it was shot. The engineers replaced the burner and associated pipes. It worked fine and then they serviced and fixed the old burner which we will keep as a spare. The new burner cost $109.95 and the labour was $40.00. The stove tested OK and I learnt how they operate and what makes them tick. While there I started to organise the work for the Hagar when she goes up on the slipe in a few weeks. This weekend we will measure up for all parts required and then order them. We will be replacing the rubber propeller cover as well as all the anodes and possibly one of the skin fittings, the water intake. And I have still not forgotten the rudder skirts which may be replaced this time with Neoprene rubber. Chris.

Hi Chris, When do you plane to pull the 'Hagar' out, I would'nt mind dropping over to take a look and maybe spend a little time helping if needed. I went down to Parsley Bay on the weekend to check on the 'Bossie', there was damage to so many of the boats in the bay, a little to the Bossie but I was lucky compared with some. Several ended up on the rocks and many were damaged by break away yachts towing their mooring and picking up other boats as they went), a lot of shipwrights will be busy for months to come. Hi Keith, good to hear from you as well as the fact that your boat is OK. We came through unscathed. The Hagar is moored in faily deep water, about 30 feet in North Harbour and is not affected to any major degree by the swell or chop. Our Mooring is inspected for insurance and we pay! Hagar goes up on the small slipway on the Spit at Middle Harbour on Friday the 27th of July & will go back in the water either Sunday the 29th or Monday the 30th. She is gurnied down for us and then we do all the work ourselves. If you are travelling southwards comming across the Spit Bridge the slipway is behind the small group of buildings and jetties immeadiatly on your left. Get to the left lane and turn off just over the bridge. It is the first jetty walking back northwards on your right. You will see the only white mast. You are wellcome to perve or work. More hands make it easier! We normally have a few helpers and it is good fun with a few beers along the way. Chris. |

This Saturday afternoon we hope to book in the Hagar at Davis Marina work berth for me to complete some of the outstanding timber (teak) work as well as to make some necessary measurements so as to order a new propeller anode, the rubber prop shart cover, the size of the water intake skin fitting and a few other bits. Rod also wants to take the Hagar out to sea for a cruise to look at whales. Chris. |

The whale watching sounds like a cool day out, My kids would love that. I will see how I am going for time on the 27th and if possible will get down to have a perve or help out. My mooring was only laid 4 months ago so I was quietly confident that the Bossie would be OK. A bit of a shock though when I saw the damage to some of the other boats. I am hoping to slip her for a bottom clean/antifoul and the usual bit and pieces. Iwould also like to have a hot water system installed (off the engine)for the shower and galley, any suggestions on what to do/ not to do, would be appreciated. cheers Keith

This afternoon Rod & I went down to the Hagar and although we did not get onto the Marina the harbour at our end was fairly protected. We found the Hagar dry and with no water in the bilge! I got to and installed the backing teak pad and measured up a new cleat base pad for the main & jib sheets. These are back-ups for the clutches which sometimes slip. The previous pad was made of teak and had split because the grain was running the wrong way. The new one will be reinforced with an alloy plate. We also had a look at our fuel pipe because there is a constant leak which makes the bilge greasy. I found that where the pipe was clapped onto the electric fuel pump, the pipe had been pinched and split. And hence the slow leak. I cut off the degraded section of pipe and after cleaning up the mess of diesel leakage reattached the pipe and clamp. We washed out the rear bilge with salt water and then went for a motor out to the sound and returned. The wind was steadily climbing and was 20 knots plue when we returned. The wind was in the South West. Chris. |

Yesterday afternoon Rod, his son & myself too the Hagar for a harbour cruise. She was completely dry and the former fuel leak had completely stopped. We motored down the harbour and checked out the Kitty Hawke and the other USA accompanying ships. She was worth the look, pity we could not see the top sides as it is a long way up to the flight deck from the harbour surface. We joined the procession of boats taking in the KH. We then hoisted the main and jib and reached home with young Micheal at the helm. Chris. |

This weekend I have planned the replacement of the teak pads which support the halliards back-up cleats as well as the two teak covers for the inside shroud plates. Hopefully we will get some dry weather as well as booking in the work berth. We are also slowly organising the slipping of the Hagar which will take place in two weeks. Chris.

When the Hagar goes up on the slips in two weeks we have arranged that on the Saturday morning, while one team of the lads will be preparing and applying the first coats of anti-foul paint to the hull another team will remove the propeller and its' shaft and run it down to the engineers shop where they will service the folding mechanism as well as clean the outer surface back to the bare metal and treat and anti-foul it with all the "right-stuff". This will remedy the problem we have had this year with barnacles growing on the prop and the paint which we used last year appearing not to have been effective. The Engineer will also be on-site at the boat with us and fix the ongoing electric problem which involves moving the moving of the power switches to the starter off the engine and onto the hull as well as replacing the loose connectors. Hopefully all our good plans will come to fruition and the weather will hold off and we should also have a good go at cleaning the Stainless and the sides of the hull. Chris.

Yesterday afternoon Rod & I got down to the Hagar and bought her in alongside the Marina wharf. She was virtually dry inside which is pleasing after having had a lot of rain in the last week. We went to work and removed the two aft screwed in inspection covers below he cabin-top winches. These have been a source of leakage and is where there are two ceiling skins below the main cabin deck skin. We removed all the old selastic filler and sealed everything up with sikaflex and replaced the covers with sikaflex and screws. We then removed a large U-Bolt which is bolted to the foredeck and bolted inside the forward v-berth ceiling and which has also been leaking. We took out the U-bolt cleaned it up and placed a flat plate as a washer on the deck and sikaflexed in the lot and re-attached the nuts. We ran out of time for anything else and I will replace the teak pad next weekend. Chris. |

This evening I completed the manufacturing of the teak platform with panel beaten SS supporting plate which will seat the back-up cleats for our main & jib halliards. All the screw holes are in place the the teak is fastened to the SS with four SS screws. We also heavily gooed the teak with a wax solution in the hope that it will not try out and split like the last one. So now it is ready to be screwed down to the cabin roof. Hopefully this will be completed along with the teak shroud plates being installed this coming weekend. Chris. |

Yesterday I got down to the Hagar, and she was as dry as a bone, which is good! Installed the teak deck cleat pad as well as screwing and gluing in the pad of teak under the port side shroud plate. It was a sticky messy job using sikaflex, and of course I forgot the thinners, so there will be some cleaning up to do at a later stage. All went reasonably well with the exception of the deck pad. The holes which I'd pre-drilled for the starboard side were incorrectly placed and I had to drill additional holes to fix the thing down. Unfortunately the stainless on the bottom of the pad lifted at a drill hole and I will have to remove the hole thing and tap it down flush with the base. While I was busy working the owners of the E24 near us which has just received a new paint job, arrived and set to work replacing fittings. She looks very nice with a white hull and with a blue stripe just above the water line. Her deck are off white with a very light blue tinge. Will hopefully have a chat and get the correct spelling of the boats name which I think is "Discatque", or something similar. Chris. |

This coming weekend sees us with all hands working on the Hagar as she goes up on the Middle Harbour slips on Friday afternoon. Anyone in the area who is interested are welcome to come on down and have a look at an E30 out of the water. Mainly the usual annual house cleaning stuff with all the insides taken out and surfaces washed down with chlorine for the mould and any grime. Andy will be changing the oil and filters as well as replacing the rubber prop shaft cover behind the stern gland, which will be re-packed. The prop shaft is to be pulled out and with the folding prop going off to the Engineer who will strip off all the paint and re-seal it as well as clean out the mechanism and re-pack with grease. And so-on. Chris. |

Hold the phone etc,
Rod has rung and informed me that the weekend has been canned as we cannot get on the slipway apparently due to over-booking. The weather has obviously disrupted their work schedule so we will be hoping for the following weekend. To be confirmed! BUGGA!!! And the weather forecast was good!!

Well, while our slipping weekend has been spoiled we are not sitting still. This afternoon Rod bought the Hagar into the Marina and the electrical engineer came down and has hopefully fixed our electrical problem moving a lot of the offending connections to the hull away from the engine replacing the connections. He also fitted the new auto bilge pump which I bought down later. We had a couple of week ending coolies and retuned Hagar to her mooring. On Sunday we will experiment with some scuba diving under the Hagar with an aqualung which Rod borrowed from another sailing member from our Club. We will see if it is usable and we may buy one for future boat cleaning. We will also finish some of the outstanding work. Chris. |

| AWWW ... seems a tad harsh. I'm always quite interested to hear what Copey's doing with his boat. The occasional photo would be good tho Chris. |
