Eric, You have become a critical armchair sailor. Why don't you just go sailing? Cannot help you posting photos on the web site. That was Sashas forte. There must be some glitch in the type of software which we use, Microsoft problems. Just send me you evidence to chris@sydprod.com.au

No Eric, your photos came through OK. The Clewless broach is good but from where I was sitting the second lay down by the Clewless boys was better with the mast almost touching the water. The photo of us looks to be OK with the pole loose but the kite still drawing and the Hagar is still under control and looks OK. I think that we had jibed but the main had flicked back over and we were about to jibe again. After that, from memory we pulled the kite down. Your comments are wishful thinking and you have no evidence. So take that!!!! Chris. |

Well tomorrow there is no race at North Harbour so the afternoon will be maintenance on the Hagar. We have two new kite braces and today I went out and purchased two new kite sheets. All Spectra and should prevent the sheets sticking in the parrot beaks which occurred at the nationals. Pete will be splicing and fixing the snap shackles to the new sheets while I will be sewing up all the ends of it's ropes. There is also a long list of other maintenance jobs with the instrument box on the cabin coming loose and so it goes on. Chris. |

Yesterday when I went down to the North Harbour SC I found it infested with kids and families swimming, sailing, paddling canoes as well as running BBQ's. Our club is now overfull of boats, members and their kids, and as Secretary of the club it is time to draw up an official position board for all craft. We are also having a new shower/change room installed. North Harbour SC has grown significantly this year. Old Pete and I got to work splicing and sewing and we pushed from part of the club to the other with all the activity going on. We got some of the work finished and Pete was took home the new sheets and braces to finish them off. Rod went out to the Hagar and sealed up the leaking skin fitting as well as installing a rubber washer over the plate which holds the prop shaft so as to minimise the knocking and vibration occurring at high revs. We also sighted the February Afloat Magazine which had arrived. It sported a good photo of the Hagar during one of our better jibes and there was also a picture of the yacht Overdrive in which Rod and Pete sailed just before the Nationals to victory in the Pittwater to Coffs Harbour Regatta. The never-ending upkeep, maintenance and upgrading upon the Hagar goes forward and last week saw all the kite braces and sheets replaced with the old snap shakels spliced back on and the ends whipped. Rod also appears to have fixed the knocking noise in the propeller shaft having installed a rubber washer. The next job is to fix or replace the instrument box which is made of alloy and is corroding, peeling paint as well as having broken it's fixing bolts and is loose. Rod is also talking of re-painting the decking and replacing the old crazed four cabin windows at the next slipping. Chris. |

Late on Sunday, with no racing, Rod, Pete and myself went out to the Hagar and hoisted Rod up the mast and replaced the old masthead light globe with one of the new low-power globes. The old globe has not worked since the trip back from Lake Macquarie. I think that these new globes are Halogens? Anyway they are great with a brighter light and lower power usage which is good on the batteries. There is now only the spreader arm down lights to replace in the future with everything else outside having been replaced with the new globes. The toilet skin fitting has stopped leaking and the boat has been dry the last few weeks. However the skin fitting will be replaced when she goes up on the slips next. Chris. |

With the Hagar having sustained major body damage while racing on the weekend and her going up on a hard stand for body work in the coming weeks or months we will take the opportunity to do a bit more work on the underwater areas of the boat when she is out of the water. The toilet skin fitting up the bow which has been leaking should be replaced and we will glue in a new bronze set of skin fittings. Yesterday before the race we bought her in and moored her off the front of the club and I dived on her and gave the hull a quick scrub. It was apparent that with the very warm water conditions over the past month or so that there has been a lot of coral growth developing. While there are always a few barnacles on the prop and shaft as well as on the underside of the keel, this time there was the circular flat brown growths which were not present at the last slipping after twelve months. Chris. |

We have no news in regards to the the damage and quotes for repairs on the Hagar as yet. No doubt the gunnel alloy tube has the shipwrights snookered. In the meanwhile we did not race in the last two twilight races with the Manly YC. Both Rod & I have been busy with work. However tomorrow we will be racing at North Harbour with the second last race of the season. Chris. |

The Hagar has been assessed for the damages received in our port & starboard encounter with the Cavalier and the bill which received for $5,600.00 odd did not include the replacement of the port side alloy toe rail. The assessor could not find a match and it could become expensive to have one made to measure. Rod has just lodged our claim to the insurance company and so we wait. Chris. |
