| Maybe Eric, but what a way to go! But enough levity. This is a forum specifically to discuss 30 footer performance! |

Ah yes, performance!!! Tonights' twilighter saw a very nice 20 knot plus southerly at Manly and these are the conditions in which the Hagar revels. We led at every mark which is remarkable because there were a few 34 & 36's which started in front of us. Hagar stormed up the work with Rod at the helm and I took over for the run to the wing mark and then a reach and another run to the finish. We were in a full main and the number three header. This no doubt helped with most of the other yachts with reefed mains and the breeze eased somewhat on the down hill runs. However it was a rewarding experience to win with a 38 within a few boat lengths and the rest of the 30 odd yacht fleet well back. On Sunday we are racing at North Harbour in the around the harbour race which is a marathon up the Parramatta River and back to North Harbour. Chris. |

Todays' race from North Harbour was indeed a marathon effort and took about five hours to complete in light conditions. We went off with the rest of the fleet together and got off to a good start in drifter conditions. We hoisted the big kite with a shorter kite pole, drifted away to lead from Old Dave Parsons. His boat is light and very quick off the wind and he usually skips away in these conditions, however we carried the kite to the Flint & Steel and then tight to the Rose Bay mark and jybed around to run down under the Harbour Bridge and jybed again off Balmain then again at Spectacle Island and passed Drummoyne YC. We dropped the kite with nearly a minutes lead and then literally cleared out upwind getting home with almost an hours lead to the next boat. We were rather pleased and surprised at the win. After discussing the boats performance we believe that much of our past seasons hard work is now paying off. Chris. |

Due to a number of simultaneous events occuring I found myself without a crew last night and therefore canned the race for the Hagar. There is no race at North Harbour this Sunday so Rod & I will just be puttering about this weekend and check to see that the Hagars' engine starts as well as inserting more fuel into the clean tank. Hi all, this is just to let you know that "Splinter" has not dropped out or off the face of earth. She has been raced in each Twilight in Gunnamatta Bay, however the crew has had other interests the season. We have all been crewing on a Durfour 35' called "Sail la vie" It's been a hard season however we have kick "A" We are in 1st place in 3 out of 4 Divisions within our Competion. Very pleasing when you have a look at the qualilty of the fleet. We won't unfortunately will not be going up to the Lake at Easter however I hope to catch up later in the year. The girl is ready & rearing to go and hope to have a suprise for Chris and the Hagar'ers. cheers,

This evening was the last Friday night twilighter at MYC and with the Hagar having been penalised by eight minutes after out win in the last race we new it was going to be tuff. Rod was away saving us with army stuff and Murray was also AWOL. This left only Old Pete & myself, however Andy put in an appearence and we went off in a solid north easterly with all the big boys around us. We got a good start and actually beat a number of them off the starting line. By the bottom mark the fleet was begining to bunch up ahead of us and as we started upwind with a solid 20 to 22 knots and gust of 24 plus we wound up the old Hagar and rocked upwind. With all the rig adjustments she doen not go any quicker, but points many degrees higher than before and since the nationals. We took a number of boats up the work and finished with nav lights on and in darkness with the north easter still piping in. It was difficult to know where we came in the fleet and will hopefully find out on Monday as well as where we came overall in the series. We have another race on Sunday at Noth Harbour and tomorrow I'm taking the Hagar around to Middle Harbour YC to have so more electical adjustments and new LED lights. Chris. |

Hullo there Eric. Yes it has been some time since we traded insults. What has happened to your cutting witt? Or lack thereof. You will be happy to know that the "paddle" hangs in our dinning room under the painting of the James Craige. My kids think its' great and my wife is mortified and is "not amused". **** happens! Must go, and help man the barriers at the voting booths and keep brown-eye bobs mob in check. Chris. |

I was up early this morning looking at the wind and driving rain squalls coming up the valley off the south east. Our home is positioned so that we look down into Manly and through the heads of Sydney Harbour. I made a ring around and cancelled the race with forcasts of 30 plus knots and it has been getting colder. Old Dave Parsons' boat is moored at little Manly and he cannot get off the beach through the surf when it gets over 30 knots. Summer appears to be over and today is a prelude to winter. Chris. |

On Saturday, while delivering the Hagar to the Engeneer for some TLC Old Pete & I watched the big boys leaving the harbour for the offshore race up the coast to somewhere? Anyway Scandia was leading Ichibam and suddenly there was a flutter & the Scandia headsail came down. Later found out that it had torn. While looking at the results of the race this morning it was interesting to see that Itci won from Scandia by about 40 minutes. A torn jibs worth? They would have had a great ride yesterday and overnight with the big southerly but failed to beat Brindabellas record. Also of interest was a boat load of old aquantances who sailed in skiffs with our in another life. These chaps were on a 40 foot yacht named Mr. Kite. Every time they go out to play Mr. Kite gets broken and they have retired in more races than finished. Chris. |

As the Hagar will not be racing this weekend, and both Rod & myself wish to go sailing, we have devised a plot to get away from our SWMBODs' for an overnight trip to Pittwater. We will be taking a boat load of our kids as crew in training. It will be the first time offshore for my four and Rods' one boy. We plan to sail up on Sunday and meet the SWMBODs' and have dinner at the RMYC. The kids and SWMBODs' will then drive home and Rod & I will overnight aboard the Hagar before sailing home on the Monday if the weather co-operates. Chris. |

This Sunday saw four yachts start in what I believe is the last race of the season at North Harbour. It was a handicap start & we gave most of the other boats a minimum of 30 minutes start. However it was a drifter and the three other boats sailed away into hole in the wind off Reef Beach. We went off and immediatly hoisted the big kite and picked up a shart of wind, the Corso Puff, and by South Head we had caught and passed them all. We then cleared out and won easily, with the next boat about ten minutes and the next boat was 3/4 of an hour. Rod raised the kite pole and we got good and improved lift from the big kite. The boat also felt a lot quicker with the bottom cleaned and, no barnicles! Chris. |

This afternoon was one of those balmey early winter harbour day afternoons at North Harbour, with a light North Easter and warm sunshine. The North Harbour crowd were in party mode with the 2006/2007 presentation of prizes. To our surprise the Hagar won the Club Championship which is remarkable because our main competition is the Race Secretary. However, as David said, he could not keep up with our constant improvement in boat speed since the New Year. Next season will see David in his renervated new Swanson 31 as well as a new 30 for the local sailmaker which is a plywood sports boat and will most likely street us all. Chris. |

Well this morning after doing my Daily Market work at the Sydney Markets, I opened the web-site to find that the Notice of Race for the 2008 Nationals has been posted. And so...."Let the stirring begin....."
Bring it on and this year, and we would like to start the Big Boat Division with the slower E26's. Its' such a pain having to sail past their fleet!
And speaking of pain, with all the talk in the media about limiting the elderly from driving on the roads, this our course must extend the waterways and especially to racing yachts.
Has anyone seen anything on older people being limited in sailing? Chris. |

Today saw the opening of the North Harbour Sailing Clubs' 2007-2008 racing season. It was an overcast and cool to cold day with rain slowly clearing into the morning. There was a poor turnout of yachts, with some not yet ready to race as well as it being too cold and inclement for most. The two starters included an E24 and the Hagar. After a very slow start we ran down the E24 by the second mark in Middle Harbour with drifter conditions. While the E24 was holding its' own and were just in front, they made a mistake and failed to cover us and we took a flyer and cleared out to win comfortably in a shortened race. It was only after we finished that we discovered that they had a wife and two babies aboard. Defiantly a case of bad luck! It was good to get out on the water and shake off the cobwebs. Chris. |

Hello there Eric, We had a big work day on Saturday at North Harbour and cleared out all the bower-bird nests in the Club, well almost all. I took my old 14 foot skiff home and if there are any free spirited types out there who would like to buy a 14 foot skiff, the Belligerence is for sale. We took away two trailer loads of rubbish to the tip and cleaned out the club as well as setting up a steel beam off which we have suspended the club dinghys and they are all sitting up-right in a row. One of our members is an engineer and will be making up an outboard rack as well as new racking for the members skis. North Harbour is looking tidier. Chris. |

While last weekend was very quiet with a poor turnout of Yachts at North Harbour, the next race which is set down for Sunday the 23rd should see a bigger turn-out with at least six yachts starting. I also had a contact this week from a yachtsman who owns an Adams 30 in North Harbour and received one of our letter drops. He wants to join and race at North Harbour SC. This means that we will soon have racing; one E30, one Swanson 30, one Adams 30, a Catalina 36, a Triton 26, an E24 and another two 24 foot craft. There is also another 30 footer being built for the Triton owner. And so the hard work and organising this winter is going to give us the beginnings of a racing fleet of yachts at North Harbour SC. Chris. |
