Good to hear from you Kevin. Have been wondering of late what you are up to. How is your health and family? Are you still racing? Glad that you still have the Splinter, is she still in good order? As you may gather we are still racing hard and are slowly upgrading the Hagar and it does not seen to finish. We have two new jibs and main but still race around North Harbour with the old rags, which have hung in remarkably well as they came with the boat, four years ago. Much of our time is spent growing our little club at North Harbour. Regards, Chris. |

This weekend is shaping up to be an interesting race with the weather forecasters predicting 25 plus knot westerlies. Just the sort of weather for trawlers, dontweknow? Chris. |

Today saw a cracker of a race with weather conditions being extreme. We had four starters and three finishers. The race was held in the sound and up into middle harbour. The wind ranged from 20 to 35 knots with a few holes but some bullets up to 41 knots. Exciting stuff! The race was won by one of the second division yachts while the Dumeresq boys loaded up their boat with about 500 kilos of body weight. Yes Stuart is getting bigger! They had the ability to race their boat standing upright while the Hagar saw only three crew members and we were underweight and over powered and had some spectacular knock downs as well as going sideways upwind. Sitting on the rail I could count the coral patches on the keel as well as the new anode on the bottom of the keel. Dumeresq were just quicker up wind. We were over powered and underweight and need a number 4 jib. Chris. |

Today's race saw virtually a scratch start with the whole fleet becalmed off Manly and Dumeresq getting the best of the fluky and light north easterly as it began to come in and clearing out over the horizon. We popped up our own kit and pursued them down into middle harbour. We reeled them in and were close but as we went into towards Rose Bay the skipper decided that a kite was not required which turned out to be a mistake as Dumeresq flew a small one. They shot away and by the time we rounded shark island for the final beat home they had a very handy lead. We reeled them in again but not enough to be near at the finish and the rest of the fleet were a long way back. The breeze had come in nicely and we were sailing in our old big rig. Chris. |

This Sundays' race at North Harbour was a marathon affair with mainly drifter conditions interspersed with heavy and light rain showers. It was uncomfortable cold to boot. We went off with Dumeresqu but Stewart did Rod on the line and they got away cleanly and away down the run. We reeled them in on more than one occasion but the race turned into a lottery and old David Parsons in his Carmen 30 cleared out to a huge lead. In the end Dumeresqu came close to the Carmen but it was David's day. We finished 3rd with most of the second division yachts having retired. Chris. |

Last night we were slated down to race in the Manly twilighter, however at work I injured myself with a resulting lower back injury which looks to have taken me out of sailing this weekend. The twilighter was looking good until the breeze dropped out and it looked like they may not have finished. Tomorrows race is still not looking good for me with what appears to be a pinched nerve in the left hip. Not happy Jan! Chris. |

After another session with the physiotherapist I can now move without being laid low with pain. So we are sailing tomorrow night come what may. And it may very well be another thunderstorm for tomorrow evening, just so long as it blows! Last Friday's results saw three finishers out of a fleet of about thirty starters.
Where is Eccles?

So sorry Eckeles, But I was a rugby forward in my younger days and we never missed a chance to put the slipper in, so I suppose I'm still carrying on the old tradition, dontyouknow? Tonight it's sailing time and braced with a pocket full of pain killers I'll be out in the sound bobbing up and down. The wind is OK at the moment but predicted to drop off. Good sailing, Chris. |

This evenings race at Manly saw a light northerly and a new course hatched by some genius from Manly YC. In a mixed fleet of about 30 odd craft we sailed around a short course three times which was virtually a dog leg and then a figure eight in which the fleet crossed itself twice. There were some very close encounters and we could have T-boned and few boats who have little idea about the sailing rules of port & starbord. Apart from this the boat went really well and it was my first steer this season as well as being aboard since she was slipped. We made one poor tactical decision which saw us loose a few positions. We came about one third of the top end of the fleet. Chris. |

Last night saw overcast and a dying southerly on Sydney Harbour and we had a crew of six aboard. We experimented with the kevlar number three jib which went well in the initial first half of the work from Manly to the wedding cake, but we faded significantly in the second half. We were passing yachts all the way up the work and on rounding the wedding cake on the reach to chowder bay the boys set up the big number one head sail and we switched over on the chowder bay jybe mark. We then ran on a broad reach to the Manly finish. We lost a few positions off the wind to the bigger yachts and finished mid-fleet. Chris. |

This afternoons race at North Harbour saw really nice conditions with a north easterly steadily filling in as the race progressed. Unfortunately Rod was indisposed entertaining his SWMBOds' work friends at a Christmas function, while his mates sailed short handed. We ended up finishing a close third behind the Carmen 31 with Dumeresqe just in front of him. We sailed up the last work over-canvassed in our big number one jib. It was very close at the finish and we were finishing quickly in 16 knots with only three aboard and only set the kite on one leg. Chris. |

Racing at North Harbour is now concluded for this year and we return for the second half of the seasons racing in 2009 the week following the Gosford Nationals. In the meantime we will be racing right up to Christmas in the Manly Twilighters to get the bugs ironed out of ourselves and the Hagar. Last week we finished 12th across the line and are looking good for this Friday with one minute off our handicap and should go well if it blows. Chris. |

Racing at Manly YC was in a moderate easterly breeze this evening. Unfortunately for some reason they have changed the courses this year and it was the third parade in a row. What is interesting is that this club continues to use navigation marks and objects as rounding marks for their courses which has been banned by the YA and most likely the maritime for a few years and is of course dangerous. Anyway there was no skill required in tonight's race and while we sailed well and passed a lot of yachts we finished again in mid-fleet. Chris. |

Yesterday's twilighter at Manly saw overcast and misty conditions with a light and lightening south-easterly. There was only Rod, his son Michael and myself on board. We sailed well up the work and past quite a few yachts. The downwind reaches saw us hold off all bar one yacht and we finished about 10th over the line. We are now finished racing until the Nationals in the new year. On Friday morning, Christmas Day SWMBO'd and I fly out to Tahiti for ten days and I come home for the Nationals about the 3rd of January. A happy Christmas and a good and safe new year to all. And to you Chris, enjoy French Polynesia and the Nats. I'm off to Broome, depending on what happens to TC Laurence, currently intensifying over the ocean and preparing for another foray over the coast. Rob |

Hello to all and a happy new year. The latest news from North Harbour is that the Hagar will sail up to Pittwater tomorrow and will have aboard, Rod, Ian, Ross and young Micheal Childs will be attending his first Endeavour Nationals. Old Pete and myself will be driving up on Friday morning.
Hagar is reported to be all ship shape and ready to rumble! Dontyouknow?

2010 NATIONAL TITLES REPORT
The weekend past saw an unexpectedly light weather series, although we may have become spoilt by the last two Nationals at Lake Macquarie where the wind conditions were consistently strong.
The light conditions at Gosford would have no doubt favored the E27 Rhumline, however due to engine problems she was a last minute scratching and the E28 from Lake Macquaire was also unsighted which left a small fleet including the E28, Final Fling, the Mark 2 E30, Kiatoa as well as the Mark 1 E30 Hagar to fight it out. And, due to there being only three E24’s as their nationals are to be held in WA this year. The two classes were combined to start together as a division with sparate results and trophys, which was the sensible thing to do and resulted in some good close racing.
The light conditions resulted in some good close racing and especially between the Dumeresqe and the Hagar who fought out every race and with close results. The Kiatoa was sporting a new set of working sails and they were competitive upwind as was the E24 Bubba. Starts were critical and if you missed a start in the sprints you were virtually out the back door.
The overall results saw the Dumeresqe and Hagar winning their respective divisions and Hagar having the best of a two way tussle.
We hope to see a larger fleet next season.
Chris.

Hagar returned to her mooring in North Harbour yesterday afternoon and the boys had a good safe trip home. Today I sat down with Rod and we had a long discussion about the boat & crews performance. The is no doubt that there is still a lot more performance to be gotten out of the Hagar from a combination of crew procedures and boat system modifications for a more professional result. Our aim is to make the Hagar the fastest Endeavour yacht in Australia and while this my be pie in the sky it is an objective to work towards. We have already began to list the boat, rig and systems modifications which we believe will help to this end. Chris. |
