We now know where to source cannons (and other similar implements) for the next championships. |

Yah Kev, great cannons for scaring the Shags but we are wondering about the next time we go and do a broadside. We have a great water cannon, I think it would take out the Shag's cannon. We deliver about 3 litre in 2 seconds. Stirs them up. By the way Graham how are you shags, are they pets yet? I have seen Chris's cannon, but I have been wondering about other toys! The mind boggles. enjoy |

PS. just a thought if Rod ever bought any of the good stuff, World War 3 would take off. Just think of the '26 guys, they would have to do genuine starts and no Fuging. Like read the Blue book, or your out. NO, I just thought about the Starter, I think he also should read the Blue Book on a Sunday morning. He may then get a few revelations and understand what it is all about. I think our water cannon would be better. cheers, |

Hi Splinter, No pet shags. But water cannons sound great. The kids would love that. Graeme |

Combustables have always been fun. I recall while growing up over the the years and enjoying cracker night in our district. It normally turned into open warfare. We would also terrorise the local dogs & cats as well as destroying letter boxes. No wonder that Rod is still in the Army reserve! I must look & see if I can get hold of some exploding rockets. We have a steady stream of chaps selling such controband in the Sydney Markets. The crackers these days, which are illegal, are now really good and scare the bejusus out of people. Chris. |

The Sailing Master of the Hagar IV, old Pete is now thinking of Northern Waters and has already organised a spot aboard one of the Hamilton Island boats. So we will not have him for more than a few weeks & he will be off to balmy Queensland. What a life! Colin, I recall some mutterence from you some time ago that I was now with the "big boys". Well I think you should re-think that statement because the big boys are the offshore racers and we are just the shore-huggers. Chris. |

Chris, get that Cat 4 and sail with MYC and you can let go of the shore. You don't want to stay with the '24 & '26's forever. It's like leaving home when you are 18, go and see the world and enjoy. We are racing from Port Hacking to the Harbour, via the Manly YA marks then to Shark Island, then Starboard around Fort Denison and finish under the Harbour Bridge - 26 NM. Stay at CYC, (Great Night) just hope they have eggs this year for Breckie. Then Sunday return. Start off Ruchcutters Bay and return to Port Hacking. Great Weekend. 50 odd miles of racing and we should have all conditions from light to maybe 20 (I hope) back down the harbour. Then Sunday with hangovers & party tidness a NE 10-15 home. ""BLISS"" So guys this offshore racing, come if you want, I am short of crew this weekend but we will still kick "A" on handicap. cheers |

Hi guys, well what a great/frustrating weekend we had. On the way to the Harbour on Saturday we had this lousy chop all the way of from 1/2 metre to about a metre with only 10-15 kts of breeze and a knot of current against us.. Every time we hit a big one the speed dropped off and then had to build it again. 6 odd hours up. We had a good night at the CYC and them the race back home. We Started off Watson Bay Sunday morning 10.30am and the breeze, well there wasn't any. We sat there for about 50 min. looking at the log & GPS "000" very frustrating and I think it was only the tide took us to the heads. So another 6 hours odd to get back home with only 5 - 8 knots all day from the East to S/East. We were very short handed all weekend but we still shot the kites where we could. By the way there was a good looking '26 heading north on Sunday off Bondi about 1.0. We were about 3 miles out and they were having a good run. Looked as if they were heading to Pittwater as they were out too far to go to the Harbour. By the way it was a white hull with a blue stripe under the gunnels. Anybody know who it was ?, I waved but no response. On all counts what a great Weekend ! cheers, |

Perhaps a year or more ago SWMBO'd & myself inspected a piece of art at Narrabeen. One piece which I particularly liked was a painting of the James Craig in full sail. A magnificent piece. You see we collect art in the form of paintings. However SWMBO'd did not like the work & I was forbidden to purchase it. And so last week Last week having just been to the Bosuns Locker at Mona Vale without finding anything of interest for the Hagar, I thought that I would just pop in and see how if the artist, Robert Carter, a former member of our Sailing Club was in. Anyway I found the painting "Reeling in the Knots" of the James Craig which was still for sale & so I said to the salesman, if the Viza Card can take it, so can I. You should have seen the look on the face of SWMBO'd when she came home, the ruddy painting of the sunflowers had been replaced by the James Craige!! The kids all like her, so SWMBO was outnumbered and outmanouvered. The value of a new number one header?!! Chris. |

Where is the photo Chris? Painting sounds great (you know the James Craig was a wreck down here in Tassie before it was restored up in Sydney). I have a couple of good boat paintings, but your photo first! |

Well Leigh, I'll have a go at resizing & attaching the photo I took last night of the James Craig. The artist is Robert Carter and he has his own website. So have a search & you should find him with a lot of his art. [img][/img]
Hope it worked, Chris. |

Leigh, Did you receive the photo of the James Craig which I emailed to you. My attempts to past the painting photo to this site failed twice. I used to be able to attach the photos, but lately they get accepted but do not display. Chris. |

Well yesterday afternoon we hoisted Rod up the mast to replace the mast head Wand instrument for the wind direction and speed. We have a Standard Horizon set of instruments which all link together providing a range of performance data when cruising or racing. The only thing it does not have is GPS Navigation and fuel or motor data. Anyway we hoisted Roddy up the mast, I'm judged to be too heavy, Pete is too old and Ian...well he was not considered, but should be the best with his dentists' hands. Rods' belt could not raise him high enough and he could not see the male fitting into which the female wand is plugged into and then screwed down. Rod apparentley has bent the male end pins and it is stuffed. As I said to Rod, "you should have, given it a good feel (foreplay) with plenty of lubrication and inserted the instrument gently but forcefully so that you hit the bottom and then screwed it in tight". Now we are off to Weasel the Rigger next Monday to pull the stick and replace the male fitting and cable down the mast as well as having the rig re-tensioned and aligned. Chris. |

It is OK Leigh, football season has started again & my boy is in four teams and trains four times a week and it is exhausting trying to keep up with the delivery & pick up service. We are still purchasing and doing work on the Hagar IV for the Cat 4 thing. Regards, Chirs. |

Hi guys, well looking at the weather forcast and talking to the crew etc, to-morrow we have 20 - 30 knots and 4 - 5 metre swells. Seas only 1 - 1.5, just like sailing on the harbour Chis, "Splinter" will be racing from Port Hacking to the Yellow mark in Botany Bay. We could have a great day coming up. Our Crew are looking forward to the 4 - 5 metre swells. Good fun. Have just confirmed we have only 6 on for to-morrow. Was hoping for 7. The back stay has now been fixed so I can now expect the #3 to now perform. Re the back stay, I should have made this modification years ago. We have spead the load over the transom and have a 8mm plate on the Transom. (polished S/S) all up only cost $200 including new drill bit. Hope all have a great weekend. cheers,

Re my last post, what a disapointment, how could BOM get it so wrong. Yes we had the 3-4 metre swell not 5-6 - wind we started at 11.30 with about 10 knots and only in gusts. I chose to go on the safe side and started with #2 thinking it would build. NO, the wind died off. On the way to Botany Bay I think we put the kite up 3 times as the wind was all over the place. Also the current is now making from the south at 1 -1 1/2 knots. Had a nice run into B Bay to the yellow mark, past 5 boats and was feeling comfortable and starting to pick up some of the middle markers then we hit the incoming tide and the Southely current and was in like wirl pools about 200m wide, we got stuck in one for about 15 minutes and with lack of wind got caught in irons. End of the day after 6 hours and at 5.30pm we were doing 1.0 knot over the water and 2.4 over the ground with the tide (and worst of all we were out of beer) we retired and started the engine. A bummer of a day and we were so looking forward to the 20-30 knots. |

Well what a great day in Sydney. We had great swells and the kids surfing on the sandbar in the entrance to Port Hacking was fantastic. A mate & I took another friends 20' tinie with a 115 hp 4 stroke out for a run to charge the battries and had fun with the 3 - 4 metre swells out front. Will enjoy taking this boat out fishing over winter. With sailing "Splinter" only one race to go until the close of the summer series. Sad that a wonderful season must come to an end. Great fun was had by all of our 8 crew. I was thinking that if I was to campaign her again next year I think I would have the same crew. Decisions for over the winter !. It has been 6 years since her major upgrade for racing so what would the budget be for next year? All sails are fine and rigging is still strong and the hull well you would never even concider any weakness. The boat is very strong but to improve - the Question ? I will make a decision over the winter and before the Safety day next season to do either Cat 3- Cat 4 or just go Cruising. I must admit I am a three way bet at present. Cheers, |
