Ecka.....the whole shebang revolved around your presence....on and off the water. It was going to be bigger than The Queen and CHOGM, and the ISAF Worlds!!! The organisers will be aghast when I tell them. Crikey, the earth may just move a little off its eccliptic. I'm off to have a cuppa and two bex. |

We sailed yesterday in a 22-26kt easterly which was NO FUN AT ALL. Caught up with John, missed Neil, I think Stuart arrived o'night. The mighty Dumaresq looks as good as ever, although John said they had some problems getting the mast stepped. Forecast is for mid to low 30's over the weekend, with very light easterlies in the afternoons, up to 6kts on Monday am. I haven't seen a NOR, but I'm guessing a seven (or maybe five) race series, sausages or triangles, in Melville water west, afternoons on the weekend, and Monday am. So it will be a soft series, Lady Luck may play more of a part than usual. I think about 8 E24's are involved in all. You'll get no joy from the RPYC website, I'll try to keep you informed. Rob. Sheeesh! Must try to proof read better!! |

Thanks for all the news to date Rob. We appreciate your effort. The winds over here are for moderate 15 knots tomorrow night off a gale this evening. It has been raining cats and dogs as it is now as I write this. The Warragambah Dam, Sydneys main water supply is predicted to over-flow for the first timne in many years sometime this evening.
......and where is Tim Flannerly....? We should nail the allarmist "b" to the dam's spillway. Good sailing in the west and good luck. Chris. |

Chris, you may have forgotten that I moved to the "Farr side" awhile ago, skipper traded in the E24 and we now sail a Farr 9.2. However, I still keep a great interest in those coffins and will be cheering on our old boat, "Amber". Besides, seems like it might be good weather for an ale or two on the Swan this w'end, maybe drop in a crab pot or two, and so on, unlike your rubbish weather over there. Rob. |

Check with "seabreeze" for updated winds, possibly a light Freo Doctor both afternoons and a shifty 10+kt noreaster on Monday am.....the latter race(s) may well be on Melville water east, which is enclosed by a sheer but small hill s'east to west, that will make picking the shifts very difficult if so. Strategy will be more important than tactics. Rob. |

It's going to be a beutiful weekend weatherwise in the wild West. Late (1500-1600hrs) seabreeze today, around 6-10kts, similar tomorrow, but earlier seabreeze and a touch stronger, and now forecast s'easterlies on Monday am, again 8-10kts. Now if the races on Monday are in MWE, it will be VERY interesting indeed.....snakes and ladders galore methinks. I will be very interested in today's wind, as the forecast max. of 32C doesn't really tie in with the later seabreeze. Rob. |

Well, the BOM got it pretty right, 32.7C today, and the Doctor came in at 1430hrs, 10-15kts. Provisional results, I couldn't get any definite news of protests. As suspected, 8 heats over the 3 days, with 1 drop. All sausages today, this particular RC has trouble setting triangles I think. VAGABOND (Tony Finch) 6 (2 with a drop) ODETTE (Michael Hallam) 8 (4) DUMARESQ (John Crawford) 8 (4) AMBER (Peter Cook) 12 (6) NIRVANA (Alan Thomas) 13 (7) Forget the rest.
H'cap: INTRINZIC 4 POMPANO 5 ODETTE 13
Three more tomorrow, should be no problem with conditions like today, perhaps the seabreeze a little stronger. Maybe 10kts s'east on Monday am, so they should get all 8 heats in. Talk on the jetty suggested Dumaresq a little off the pace compared to usual, if that's the case, I'm sure John and crew will make the appropriate rig adjustments. Twelve E24's at the first start, with EL NINO (Michael Hulbert) baling out in the first heat and not competing any further today. Will hopefully update why tomorrow. Vagabond has 2 firsts and a 4th, Odette a 1st, 3rd and 4th, Dumaresq two 2nds and a 4th and Amber two 3rds and a 6th. Rob.

Apologies for the late report.....seduced by rum and the cricket. A delicious day in Perth, as predicted 35C, and a seabreeze 10-15kts by 1400hrs, though obviously of the dying type. What a great part of the world to have National Titles!! So interestingly, RC organised a huge sausage for the first heat, guaranteeing a procession after the first roundings....very boring. I would have thought a triangle in the perfect sailing breeze first up would have been appropriate, to test the competence of the crews, knowing that with the dying breeze, two more heats of shorter sausages could be accomplished with ease. Ho hum. A friend of mine is keen of saying..."There is a place in hell for laywers and handicappers"....perhaps there is a bunk there for PRO's as well. So, deliciously, the titles, provisionally ( I have no idea of any protests) are balanced as so: With one drop, and two heats to go: ODETTE 10 DUMARESQ and VAGABOND 11
Forget the rest, even with two wins, the above three would have to finish next Saturday for anyone else to make the podium. The forecast is for light (<10kts) noreasters tomorrow am, my previous comments apply....strategy vs tactics. This was well illustrated today by Michael Hallam in ODETTE outclassing John Crawford (DUMARESQ) in the last heat in light airs....well done Michael. Particularly as Odette is a heavy boat (I've sailed on her, I know), Mike's Dad, Peter, a veteran E24 sailor refuses to upgrade any gear on the boat, it's full of bunks and so on. It is obvious that Dumaresq is a fast boat and has great pointing ability and is sailed extremely well by John and her crew, but she is noticeably faster both up and downwind, and her stern and freeboard is higher than all the other E24's racing in this series (Despite "Tiny" Staurt Dart on board..(apologies Stuart, no offence meant)), which suggests she is a light boat. As we all know, almost always, lighter is faster. So those of you who haven't gutted your boat for the series, don't complain, next time, if you want to be competitive, do it!! Will be attending the luncheon/presentations and hope to be able to provide a legible report re the same. Depends on who buys me what drinks!! Whatever happens, this has been a cracker series, with perfect weather....wotta place to live. Maybe the titles should be held every year in Perth!! Cheers, Rob. |

BREAKING NEWS!!! BREAKING NEWS!!! BREAKING NEWS!!!
WA retains State Title!!!! Well done Michael Hallam (ODETTE) for winning the WA State Title for 2012. Tony Finch (VAGABOND) a close second. Was touch and go today, with Mike having the unenviable task of covering Dumaresq for the Nationals, or Vagabond for the States. As predicted, the winds were from the noreast at around 10 kts, but sailing in MWW, making shifts less of a problem than predicted. As for the Nationals, it was a lay down misere with Dumaresq winning both heats this am, and well sailed guys, you deserve to retain the Title. Final (Provisional) Results:
DUMARESQ: 3 wins, 3 seconds and two 4ths.
ODETTE: 2 wins, 3 seconds and 2 thirds and a fourth.
VAGABOND: 2 wins, 1 second, 2 thirds and 2 fourths and a sixth.
It was a fantastic series with brilliant weather and close sailing for the top of the fleet, particularly the first upwind legs. In day 2, Dumaresq was lee bowed and slam dunked in the second heat a number of times by various boats, leading the writer to wonder if it was indeed teams racing, but with the heavily biased WA binoculars, I didn't see any serious infractions. The NSW boys consolidated after an average first day and deserve to take the trophy home. However, in the the absence of Gordon Thomas and Pat Jones, they made the grade, but they had to work for it, and I suspect they will over the trip home ponder whether they can do it again, particularly if Gordon and Jonsey can be persuaded to sail against them again. The fleet racing was a good challenge for them, no doubt they have a great boat, and sail her extremely well, it's now up to the E24 Association to encourage other E24's to arc up and challenge them in races in the ES. Plaudits to the RC, they did their best, I still have a problem with the paucity of triangles considering the conditions, maybe it's a Pythagorean thing. Presentations and lunch were the usual quality, I was left at a table with Susan, Michael and Peter Hallam, and Commodore Mike Kilcullen......enough said. Copey, Colin.....you would have both loved it....think about it for 2014. Rob. |

Interesting results, I had been keeping my piece as I suspected that our boys from NSW may falter this year. This being due to the fact that the Dumereaq had sailed only twice this season and that a certain member of the crew, who shall remain nameless had put on a lot of weight and not been sailing, dontweknow?
Well done lads, now we can take the bragging rights for again having two National Endeavour titles for our Club at North Harbour. Chris. |

Ahoy there Rob, Yesterday we had the oppprtunity to hear all the goings on at the WA E24 Nats from John Crawford (JC). JC and crew were unimpressed by the actions of number of WA sailors who were reported to have tried to run the Dumperesq off the course before the race started, therebye making our boys miss the start.
Very poor form chaps? Dontwe-remember? Two can play that game and just remember that the Dumeresq has some willing big brothers who can play similar games when next year we meet at Lake Macquarie.
It seems that the WA boys have given sportmanship away? Very poor form, dontyaknow? Chris. |

I don't know anything about that Chris, I'll check on it. Remember, I was only watching from the shore. Rob. |

Doctor Robert, You should of had a set of Victorian glasses on when watching the races or better still been out there racing yourself.
