As i push on with Dulcibella's refit i find that the table in the

dinette gets in the road when i'm atempting to get something out of

the cupboards on the starboard side, so i'm thinking that maybe i

should make a drop side table out of it ,has anyone done this and

if so was it worth the effort or maybe come up with some other

system that works. Cheers Taunto.

I don't own a 28 or a 30 but in my opinion, any boat with limited space below would benefit from what you are contemplating.
One or two drop downs I have encountered over the years however have suffered from being a little "unsturdy" when down, which is where it most often sits when things get rough. One tends to make a grab for anything when below in rough weather, and that will include your table.

Drink wine, and you will sleep well. Sleep well, and you will not sin. Avoid sin, and you will be saved. Ergo, drink wine and you will be saved.

Thanks Robert for your point of view on my table,i had not

considered what would happen in a rough seaway . The point of

balance is not in the middle of the table but on the side . The

pedestal sits just to the starbord side of the keel so there is

about 600mm unsupported , the tendency is to lean on the

unsupported section when leaning over to get to the cupboards and

after years of large bodys doing this there is a 3 or 4 degrees

drop, maybe i should

put it on the gunna list and think and talk some more about it.

. Cheers Tony.

Hi there Tony,
All the E28's which I have inspected had a round table on the starboard side and no drop-down. The E30's are mixed. Our boat was an original factory boat as is Splinter. These boats have a narrow timber table covering the over-the-keel engine. Some have starboard side square tables with bench seats while some Mark 2's as well as the E32 which we inspected, have port side square tables with little bench seats.
There are a couple if E27's in our bay and they have small square tables up against the port sides.
It depends upon where the engine is located and what your choice is.
Regards,
Chris.

G'day Chris thanks for your imput into this little problem, Dulcibel

is a factory fit out , as of the blue book plan . Today while

waiting for some flo coat to dry i thought of a solution that means

loseing one seat and building a box affair with more cupboards and

a drop table attached to it ,i then took pencil and pad and did a

drawing of what i imagined it would look like but i think it would

look very clumsy even if i used some nicely grained timber , but

maybe a bracket at the end of the table onto the starbord side

seat to strengthen the top of the table and a drop on both

sides would be the simple solution for now.

Cheers Tony.

Hi there Tony,
Have just gotten in after a great afternoons racing down at the southern end of the harbour out of Ransa. Another great result, 1st in our division and on handicap and about fourth across the line in all divisions.
Good to hear that you are getting along with your renovations with your yacht project.
If you would like some photos, send me your email address to:
chris@sydprod.com.au
I'll send you a set of photos on the cabins of E30 & E28's which I have.
Regards,
Chris.
